  • Matthew Zimmer, LMSW joins Grove with over 18 years of mental health experience as a Licensed Masters Social Worker who has been providing psychotherapy in the Greater Ann Arbor area. He has decided to make the transition to private practice to better serve his clients after spending the majority of his career in the clinic setting. Matthew works with clients ages 16+ and adults throughout the lifespan.

    Matthew received his Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree from the University of Michigan and completed a post-MSW Fellowship at Michigan Medicine. Matthew has a special interest in working with teens (16+) and young adults from his experience as a former high school English teacher. His past career as an educator helps to connect, understand and support his adolescent clients and their families. Matthew also holds a Certificate in Tech Addiction and Digital Health in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults as well as a Certificate in Clinical Concerns and Gender Identity.

    Matthew has been successful in providing therapy to clients across the lifespan and those who are experiencing trauma, loss, family and relationship conflict, parenting issues, LGBTQIA identities, and existential crises. Matthew is trained in addressing behavioral addictions, depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, suicidal ideation, phobias, and thought disorders. Matthew emphasizes and acknowledges that the current world in which we live can be a frustrating, disheartening, and a difficult landscape to navigate. He has a deep understanding of the human condition and the dynamic challenges that present in the world. He has an innate ability to sit with people at varying life stages as they process through the complexity of challenges that life often presents.

    Matthew helps clients to confront deeply ingrained thoughts and feelings, and tailors his therapeutic approach to significantly reduce the distress they are experiencing. Matthew utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Mindfulness with clients. He also enjoys integrating his creativity and humor (when appropriate) to connect further with each client. Not only is Matthew a therapist, but he also acts as a seasoned life guide, which can help his clients understand the difference between distress and sustainable growth, to allow capacity for renewed joy and purpose.

    Matthew approaches life with a sense of wonder and a passion for exploring new experiences, lifelong learning and laughing while always in the pursuit of becoming a better person. Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife, 3 daughters, two beagles, two cats, and exploring the outdoors.

  • $185 per standard therapy session
