  • Sara Marasco, LMSW (she/her) brings warmth, compassion, and humor into her therapeutic work, believing deeply in the power of connection and curiosity in the healing process. She understands that therapy can feel unfamiliar or daunting at times, and aims to create a space where clients feel both supported and gently challenged. Whether working together in a long-term capacity or focusing on short-term, targeted goals, Sara meets clients where they are while helping them move toward growth and change at a safe and steady pace.

Sara is committed to trauma-informed care, with a primary lens being Internal Family Systems (IFS, or "parts work"). She integrates mindfulness regularly in sessions and is pursuing ongoing training in somatic approaches, recognizing the important connection between mind and body in the healing process. She is trained in SAFE (Somatic and Attachment Focused) EMDR and Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), both of which are foundational in her therapeutic work. Additionally, she incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Problem-Solving Treatment (PST) to support clients in developing meaningful skills for everyday life. A member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), Sara finds motivational interviewing to be an essential tool in guiding clients toward self-directed change.

Sara works with adults navigating a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, bipolar disorder, addiction-related challenges, adjustment, or life transitions. Trauma is a core focus of her work and ongoing training, and she understands the many ways it can shape emotional, relational, and physical experiences. She also has experience supporting individuals managing chronic health conditions and those considering changes to their substance use.

With extensive experience working in collaborative care settings, Sara is comfortable discussing psychiatric medications as part of treatment. She has worked closely with prescribers, including psychiatrists and primary care providers, to support clients in monitoring their response to medications and integrating behavioral health care with medical care. While she does not prescribe medication, she can help clients explore their options, track changes in symptoms, and communicate effectively with their providers.

Sara completed both her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Michigan, earning her Master of Social Work in 2011. Since then, she has worked in hospital, primary care, child welfare, and community-based settings. In addition to her clinical work, she has been involved in advocacy efforts to expand access to behavioral health care, particularly for underserved populations in Michigan. She also enjoys teaching and currently lectures at the University of Michigan School of Social Work.

Sara grew up near the beauty and steadiness of Lake Michigan, which helped develop her appreciation for slowing down and restoring through nature. She has lived in Ann Arbor since 2006, and is grateful and humbled to be a part of the abundant Ann Arbor health care community.

  • $165 per standard therapy session.
