John has established a long-standing career in private practice mental health in Ann Arbor for over 30 years. John has taken his expertise in the field of private practice to join Grove as an experienced collaborator. John is a Licensed Social Worker and a Licensed Health Coach.
He began his psychotherapy training as a Post-Graduate Fellow in Infant Mental Health as a faculty member at the University of Michigan Child Development Project. This training focused on developmental issues in infancy, primarily blindness at birth, that can interfere with attachment styles in relationships throughout early development.
John later began his career as a psychotherapist at the University of Michigan Child Psychiatry Department, where he had an active clinical practice and taught many seminars on Play Therapy, Infancy Attachment and Early Childhood Development.
In John’s current practice, he sees a range of lifespan clients from infancy to aging adults. His therapeutic style and expertise allows John to see many different clients with varying presenting issues such as; Behavioral and attachment issues in infancy and early childhood, Children on the Autism Spectrum transitioning through adolescence; Preschool - Elementary school-aged children seeking play therapy techniques; Teens with chronic mood disorders; Clients of all ages seeking support managing life transitions, counseling longevity; Academic and Clinical Supervision.
